5 Ways to Bring the Energy You Want Into the New Year

It’s a new year, but it’s not always a new you. Sometimes when the ball drops and the confetti goes flying we don’t feel excited or have more energy. Maybe you’re feeling more weighed down by another year gone by and not a whole lot has changed. It’s not like you planned. Not like you envisioned. Your life is not like what you thought it would be at all a year ago. Sigh. The flip side, you had a great year and you want to keep that momentum going. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. No one journey is like the other and you my friend are on a quest all your very own. So, embrace it.

In this blog you will learn five things you can do right now to start shifting your body’s energy for increased productivity and focus. When we do this, we not only have more actual energy to go throughout our day, but we have a whole different view of the world. One that holds more space for joy and gratitude.

1] Listen to your body

When we listen to our bodies in a more intuitive way, we learn to surrender to what we think we need to do and do what actually needs to be done. This means putting your ego aside and tuning into how you feel, no matter your age or gender. When we tune into our bodies we are more likely to give it what it needs. When we deliver on that promise it rewards us with energy back.

2] Create a morning/evening routine

We are way more pleasant when we don’t exhaust our brains, creating overwhelm. When we can make healthy tasks routine and without much thought, we reserve our energy to put towards the really challenging work in our days. The easiest way to do this is to create routines. A routine is something we do with little or no thought – but the goal here is to make those mindless activities ones that are good for us. No sitting on the couch binge watching Netflix here.

We are conserving our precious energy by making things simple. Look at your morning routine and see where you can simplify it. Are there things you can do at night – which you can add to your nightly routine – that would make a task in the morning easier? For example, laying out your clothes including shoes at night so you don’t have to scour through your closet in the morning looking for something to wear. Remember, positive action with little to no thought saves us energy to put towards the hard stuff.

3] Drink your water

When it comes to water many of us don’t get the recommended daily amount which is half our body weight in ounces, at least. Most often when our bodies feel weak we reach for a snack, but grabbing a big glass of water just might do the trick and is a lot healthier for us in the long run.
More benefits of drinking water:

  • Improved kidney function
  • Lubricates joints
  • Boosts skin health and beauty
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Flushes body waste
  • Aids in digestion
  • Reduces anxiety and anxiousness

All these things alone are great, but water helps with each and every one of them. Just think about the energy you will feel with a healed inside and beautiful skin outside.

4] Practice more movement

Daily movement is key to getting and maintaining energy. You have already at some point in your life proven this to be true. Maybe you played sports when you were young, exercised regularly at one or more times in your life, or went on a daily walk. If you have fallen out of the habit of moving your body you still have muscle memory of what it is like to be more active. You already know, increased energy comes from more movement. It doesn’t happen overnight, but small daily actions turn into big strides over time.

Start with walking 10 minutes outside or on a treadmill if outdoors isn’t an option. Build your distance over time and before you know it, you will be excited to move your body and have a lot more energy to do the things you enjoy. You can schedule time each day to move for 30 minutes. Whether that means you wake up and do yoga or get a gym membership and are there everyday at 5:30. You know what will work in your season of life. If you make it too complicated you won’t do it. Find a way to move your body that works for you.

5] Protect your emotional energy

Creating energy by moving your body is important, but protecting your mental energy may be even more critical to overall energy. This may be easier said than done because sometimes this does require making some hard decisions, but clearing out your mental space is one of the surest ways to gain more energy, and a bonus is more clarity too. Struggling to figure out your next big career move? Does your relationship need more passion? Need better connection with your children? Then clean out the mental junk you’re carrying with you. The old story you keep telling yourself about how you’re not smart enough, funny enough, talented enough, the list goes on. Get out of your head and reach into your heart. It’s time to release that negative tone and energy from your body and leave space for what’s good in your life.

Starting a gratitude journal and feel the negativity roll right on off and right on out of you. Like with movement, start small. Grab a clean, never written in notebook and each night before bed [part of your evening routine] write down one thing you are grateful for from that day. Continue to do this each day, gradually adding another, then another till you get to 10 things each day. Reflect back on this journal when you’re having a hard day or hear bad news. Remember the good, and know you can overcome anything. Setting your intentions for what you want the day to look like, how strong you’d like to be if something comes up, and what it would take for you to move towards bigger goals, takes a few steps of planning and visualizing the process and outcome.

What are your thoughts on those? Five great ways you can do to gain more energy this year. We hope you bring one or all of these into your life and daily routine.
